In Malawi, FAIR works with local partners to ensure technical maintenance and teacher training.
None of the equipment is given as a donation. Instead, local schools are required to contribute a symbolic leasing fee - or maintenance fee - which in essence turn the schools into a cooperative.
The combined fees allow the local partner to afford salary, transportation, and storage of computers and spare parts.
However, this also requires a certain strength in numbers. Thus, we have to be cautious about establishing centres in new locations.
As of 2019, FAIR works in the Northern and Southern Regions of Malawi, respectively.
